EAST-CENTRAL ALBERTA
East-central Alberta is an area where Rival will focus considerable
exploration activity. The area offers year round access and
a lower cost operating environment for drilling and production.
The main attraction of this region is its multi-zone potential
for high quality reserves and access to existing infrastructure.
The area also allows Rival to pursue a balance of oil and
natural gas opportunities.
In 2003, Rival’s business combination with Roseland
Resources Ltd. provided a significant first step into this
region. The Company acquired interests and operatorship in
several new areas and gained production of approximately 400
boe per day from the properties. The acquisition also contributed
23,000 net acres of land and a significant seismic data base.
The largest properties acquired in the transaction are at
Bellshill Lake and Killam, where Rival produces a net 250
barrels of oil per day. These properties have been developed
with vertical and horizontal wells. New development typically
involves horizontal wells which yield high volumes of oil
on flush production, before declining to approximately 75
barrels of oil per day over the initial six months.
